For a few exhilarating moments down a steep descent, they are the masters of a grueling, yet sublime atmosphere that beckons them back yearly, regardless of provenance.
But what is this serene, yet unforgiving pastime that we allude to? We of course are talking about skiing and snowboarding! The High Country is an outdoorsman’s paradise. Regardless of the season or temperature, an abundance of adrenaline-fueled excursions is sure to satisfy the heartiest of appetites.
And despite what the ski resorts in Colorado and Utah might tell you, the High Country is brimming with excellent opportunities to test your mettle on several manicured and well-maintained slopes. Currently, there are three top-tier ski and snowboard resorts locally. All resorts are located within a short drive from any of our Sofield Rentals’ properties!
Premier living options to enjoy amazing outdoors adventures
Appalachian Ski Mountain is the closest to town. It’s located at 940 Ski Mountain Road in Blowing Rock. Weekday ski sessions are as cheap as $41 for adults and $26 for juniors and adults on select days. Once you’ve mastered those trails, head down N.C. 105 to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort in Banner Elk. Half-day slope tickets can be purchased for as little as $36. Just down the road is Beech Mountain Ski Resort where tickets for evening sessions start out at $29. None of the mentioned prices, however, include ski or snowboard rentals.
